The day before he was found dead from an accidental overdose in November 2017, Lil Peep posted a short, mostly silent video of himself to Instagram. “I just wana be everybody's everything,” the caption began. Two years later, fans continue to leave comments there like flowers, to let him know he’s missed. EVERYBODY’S EVERYTHING, a career-spanning companion piece to the documentary film of the same name, combines unreleased posthumous material (including all of the recently released GOTH ANGEL SINNER EP) and defining tracks from early mixtapes for a set that feels less like a greatest-hits comp and more like a heartfelt attempt to capture what made him different. Trap, emo, grunge, pop, whatever—Peep’s fusion of styles and signifiers was a deeply melodic, fully modern backdrop to something timeless, something essential, something that made him a mirror for so many. He seemed to feel every syllable. That’s clear across EVERYBODY’S EVERYTHING, from dystopian lullabies like “white tee” and “witchblades” to the Diplo-produced “RATCHETS”, which bears ghostlike echoes of The Verve’s “Bitter Sweet Symphony”. An acoustic version of “walk away as the door slams”—which contains a snippet of blink-182 offshoot +44’s “155”—has the urgency of a lost Dashboard Confessional recording, albeit one with references to dirty Sprite and a guest feature by Lil Tracy. And on the previously unreleased “PRINCESS”, he delivers a simple but devastating pop song. “How could I forget about you?” he asks the song’s namesake. “I don’t know what I’d do without you/Send me one text so I can get some rest.”
